The Story Behind Mutovu
Rwanda, known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills”, offers ideal conditions for high-quality specialty coffee thanks to its high elevations and cool climate. In the Western Province, near Lake Kivu and the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, lies the Mutovu Washing Station, founded in 2012.
The coffee cherries come from numerous small family farms that deliver their harvest to the Mutovu station. There, the cherries are carefully sorted, floated, and then sun-dried as naturals on raised beds. This gentle processing method highlights the characteristic sweetness and fruitiness of Rwandan natural coffees.
The result is an expressive yet highly elegant coffee that truly excels as an espresso while also showcasing the versatility of modern Rwandan specialty coffee.
