The Story Behind Worka Chelbesa

Worka Chelbesa is located in the Gedeb district, the southernmost part of the Gedeo Zone, and is considered one of Yirgacheffe’s most respected micro-regions. The area is characterised by dense, semi-wild vegetation with ensete trees and natural shade — ideal conditions for slowly ripening coffee cherries.

The cherries come from numerous small family farms that deliver their harvest to local wet mills. There, the varieties Wolisho, Dega, and Kurume — traditional Yirgacheffe landraces — are carefully sorted, honey processed, and gently dried on raised beds.

The result is an exceptionally clean and elegant coffee with fine sweetness, vibrant fruit, and a structure reminiscent of high-quality tea — a perfect example of the modern, precise side of Ethiopian filter coffee.
